Why Gamma NEW?

The Gamma Nu chapter house has gone through many changes over the years. Our last expansion and renovation occurred in 1965, giving us the address of 800 West Maple. The house was built to accommodate 75 women. Over 40 years later, the very same house serves an active chapter of more than 300. Despite the pride we take in the ever-increasing membership of accomplished young women, this growth has strained the chapter house to a point where the facilities must grown to accommodate a new future.

There are many issues facing the house today:

Aging and outdated wiring, HVAC and plumbing are in constant need of repair and replacement.

Kitchen is outdated and inadequate to prepare meals for 200+ on a regular basis.

Dining room space is insufficient to seat our large membership.

Limited public areas provide insufficient meeting places for the two-thirds of the chapter who live outside the house.

A chapter room built for 75 is totally inadequate for 300 members. Currently we are renting space on campus for chapter meetings.

Bedroom and bathroom facilities are outdated and inadequate.

Limited education and study space has insufficient lighting and unreliable Internet access.

Our renovation plan addresses all of these challenges. We will incorporate state-of-the-art systems throughout the house and increase the overall size by 10,000 square feet. The new total square footage for the Gamma Nu house will be 41,000. Our landmark Greek Revival structure will retain its charm while adding essential new space.
